General information

In the spring turkeys start there breeding cycle. Toms gobble in the tree right at day break, they do this in an effort to locate hens from the previous day so that they can mate. Hunters attempt to get as close as possible to the tom while it is still in the tree before the hens come to him. Hunters must be stealthy as turkeys can see very well. At that time, the hunter sits down and starts making hen calls with a wooden or mouth call. The tom eventually flies off the tree onto the ground. The hunter then continues to call the turkey into a range that would be an ethical range to make a shot with a shotgun or bow.

As in any sport, safety is the most important aspect. Please do not take this lightly as most accidents are avoidable and occur because of unawareness.

-You cannot hunt turkeys over bait
-They can only be killed with either a shotgun or bow
-Turkeys must be tagged immedietly within harvest and checked within 24 hours
-Juveniles are not allowed to be killed by hunters older then 15
-Only one turkey is allowed to be killed per week
-Hunters born after 1969 must possess a hunters education card.

-Children must be at least six years old to hunt

-You may not shoot 30 minutes before sunrise or 30 minutes before sunset

-Always transport guns unloaded and with the safety on

-Always treat guns as if they are loaded and never point them at anyone

You will need to bring decoys as well as turkey calls. The decoys serve to lure in the toms because they will visually think it's a real turkey. The calls serve to lure them in by sound. You do not need a red dot but it is an attachment that goes on your gun that makes the target easier to see and is nice to have. You also do not need a drone but it is nice to have to follow the birds when they act stubborn. You will also need a gun or bow to harvest the animal, I prefer to use a gun because it's easier. Binoculars are also not necessary but make it easier to see at long distances.
